An observation [14 Nov 2006|06:22pm]
Ham, potato salad and applesauce might seem like a meal, but it doesn't really feel like one when you eat it straight out of the fridge.

By the way, when I say glittery gold suit, I mean GLITTERY gold suit.

From last night, stolen from flickr:

Soo, where can I find one of those?!

I just found one of those cmu car window stickers in my drawer that I probably got sometime in the last 4 years. By tonight I will almost definitely have a place to put it. I finally have insurance so I can go pick up my car, as long as the dealership has finished fixing the radio/cd player (very important). Yay! It's an '03 Mazda Protege.

The only problem is that I am STILL unemployed (ugh!) and can pay for 1 month's worth of car right now... so I guess I'll have a job soon even if it is at starbucks. I've had about a million interviews and have either been rejected, or the people never get back to me and don't return my calls and emails.

Last night Tara and I went down to South Street to see John Ralston, Ben Lee and Rooney at the TLA and it was fantabulous. Even though I was standing right next to an enormous speaker and getting my head blown off, I could not help smiling and dancing like a big dork through Ben Lee's whole set :) How can you not love a crazy little Australian guy in a glittery gold suit jumping around on a stage? It's not possible! The other 2 bands were also excellent. AND the mirror didn't get stolen from my Dad's car even though I didn't put it away... ha! I guess that doesn't make sense unless you can see the mirror situation.

Pioneers in the world of color... since 1905 [07 Oct 2006|03:41am]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

I don't know what it is about this cotton ball company's website... http://www.sentinelconsumer.com/html/sentinel_shines.htm

Maybe it's that they've managed to stick around for 101 years selling "cosmetic fluffs."
It could be that the packaging looks like something you'd find in your mother's drawer and think "damn, these must be as old as I am!" After which you would immediately google the company to see if it still exists... OK maybe that's just me.
Or maybe it's the picture of cotton balls and swabs with the captions "Capturing the market with color," and "High-quality innovative products."
Whatever it is it makes me smile.

For some reason that brings me back to the days when my mom would take my brother and I along to Clothworld and we'd run around and hide or search through all the pattern index books full of boring, old lady clothes until we got to the Halloween costume sections. She could sew one mean ninja turtle outfit. Tom was a way cooler Raphael (maybe?) than any of those other plastic mask-wearing preschoolers ;)

wreckage [17 Sep 2006|11:52pm]
[ mood | frustrated ]

I saw a car halfway inside of a house yesterday on Cottman Avenue. It somehow became perpendicular to the road, drove over the sidewalk and lawn and crashed through the bricks on the bottom of this house. There was a TON of traffic when I passed it... so unless it had been there for hours it couldn't have been going that fast. How does that even happen?

Today's other wreck? The Eagles/Giants game. How frustrating, and typical, and dumb, and GRR!

It has come to my attention that I rarely update this here contraption.

So here's an update: It's summer!

I've been living in AEPi, volunteering for the Arthritis Foundation (do Jingle Bell Run!) and running out of money simultaneously. Yeah, I'm talented. This Saturday I'm going to move back to Philadelphia (uh... Abington), find a real life job, and find myself an apartment.

Notable "events" of the summer:
-Care Bears
-Beerfest
-Getting to Kelly's house thanks to a fabulous map
-Lots of chocolate and Food Network with Esther
-Variations on Candy Land
-Fuzzy Ducks and Butterfingers
-Grove City
-Trip to the liquor store that required a shopping cart
-Canadians? Maybe?
-Dave & Buster's (fun for everyone except that little girl :))
-Gin Blossoms + crazy dancing people
-The Colbert Report (with Amtrak screw-ups, crazy adventures and hot dogs on the run)
-Seeing everybody on a crazy awesome New York trip... except that one part... mmm margarita pitchers
-Finally painting the fence!
I'm sure there's more.

I'm going to miss you all! If you're ever in Philly or need an excuse to get out of town, give me a call!

PGH & CMU, it's been a blast!

After a night of being violently ill, probably with the crazy baby virus from work, I can finally get out of bed and am working on my last paper EVER! I don't really have anything to say, I'm just procrastinating. Maybe I just don't want to finish my work, because then I have to think about graduating, people leaving, leaving people... and that will all make me cry.

I can't believe it's been 4 years.

I just walked home across the street from the Perry HS marching band/color guard/cheerleaders who were rocking Forbes with some Kansas. They also had some kind of tall bird people... I think it had something to do with whatever's going on at the museums with all those giant inflatable animals. Too bad my camera didn't work.

Greek Sing is amazing. I never imagined that I'd do anything like that EVER. Wow.
Also... AEPi rocks, as always.

yay life!

brain? hello? [28 Feb 2006|11:16pm]
[ mood | apathetic ]

Right now I'm at the point where I can barely form a coherent thought. I don't know why, but I thinnk it's because I don't necessarily have to at the moment. My mind has Tuesday nights off.

This semester is really weird. Class is definitely not a priority for me since none of them are relevant to anything I want to do... not that I know what that is, or ever will. I've hardly started looking for a job yet, but that's about to change. The internship and work are semi-interesting and fun & exhausting respectively. Extracurricular stuff is my life most of the time. I miss having free time to hang out with all the people I don't get to see so much. I guess that'll change in a few months, but everyone will be scattered... boo. I should really do better with that.

Remembering the crazy Milky Way "WHATEV" commercial I saw yesterday just derailed that depressing train of thought... so YAY chocolate!

Well that was fun.

Dear Greg [27 Feb 2006|01:04am]
[ mood | crazy ]

Sometimes, you just can't use a whole tomato on your delicious sandwich, but you need to do something with it because it's gonna go bad. It's times like those when you have to load the remaining halfmato up with mayo and pepper and just eat that mofo! Yes, it is delicious, and no, I wouldn't say the same about my mom, but apparently you know better than I would, which is probably unfortunate for someone... unclear who. In the name of procrastination, I'll recap. Tomato = good. Backhoe = in the tunnel where you drove it and took up both lanes only to leave it there and forget about it.

Thanks for giving me something to do other than write my paper, not that I wouldn't have found something equally ridiculous to write in here.

Your 2nd coolest housemate,
ME.

p.s. I just started rhapsody so I could put something in the music thing... which is why I can't be the coolest housemate.

sketchtown [21 Feb 2006|01:16am]
[ mood | aggravated ]

Tonight all the "normal" people in Oakland seem to have disappeared from the streets and left behind the ever-so-pleasant loitering sketchballs of the city. A couple of guys came up and started talking to me and asking for money, which isn't that unusual for Oakland, but the Pitt Police cars circling around the neighborhood and the guy that started following me down the street right after... not so much. I think I'll start getting rides home on non-weekend nights from now on, because that was not fun. Oh, and the 59U that drove by me SUCKS!

Once again... I should be typing my paper. I've already written it, so it shouldn't be a problem, right? This is a new low for me in procrastination!

It's about that time... to go see Aerosmith again? I'm a huge nerd, you should have known me when I was 14. Those were some good times... me & aerosmith, Tara & the goo goo dolls... ahhh.
Anyone up for paying too much for tickets and then driving to Hershey over spring break? No? Didn't think so.

STEEL is cool [07 Feb 2006|12:41pm]
[ mood | hyper ]

Some number of Amy Bickertons requested that I update this with my riot stories. I don't really think my riot stories are unique though, so if you want to know about flipped cars and fires, check out the news. They probably don't have anything about the random girl who hates me for not selling her my terrible towel for $5, but that's ok.

While I was speedwalking through the hall (I just had a quarter of a bottle of pepsi, and apparently that's enough), I ran into half of the history professors I've ever had in about 1 minute. I came to the realization that they're all pretty much awesome. The ones that aren't have pretty much disappeared from campus. I highly reccommend taking a class in the history department :)

Exactly 7 months until football returns :) GO EAGLES!

I have never met so many hardcore 3-year-old football fans in my life. Not that they exactly understand what's going on... one kid told me that "Ben Wothwisberga" couldn't get tickets to the superbowl. Adorable? Yes.
